The story of the musical

The musical "The Group" was written by Dan Woodvine. Dan finally set out to complete the writing in 2020 during the first lockdown in the Covid 19 Pandemic.  Dan had previously thought of the concept for "The Group" in 2014 and had written the two songs "Shropshire Aspergers Support Group" and "One Man Only".

In 2022 when Covid was becoming less common Dan teamed up with Heidi Brown, Natalie Weller and Chloe Parry and formed the disability theatre academy to put the production together. The theatre acaedmy registered with Helen Stokes, Pam Francis and Ian Nurser as its board of trustees.  The theatre acaedmy is expected to have its first full live performances of the musical in 2024.

"The Group" tells of the formation of a support group for adults with mild to moderate Autism or Aspergers Syndrome in Shropshire, the transitions it goes through as an organisation and two people, Lucia and Sean, from different backgrounds who find each other through the Group.
